چکیده

As an alternative to the rather intensive computations when using the nonlinear traffic flow model METANET in a model-based predictive control context, a piecewise-affine (PWA) approximation of the model is proposed. Here, several model equations amongst which the fundamental diagram are approximated by a PWA function. Some selected methods to determine this approximation are shortly discussed. In addition, we make use of model properties and physical insight to improve the PWA approximation. For the purpose of traffic control, the PWA approximation of the METANET model can be used in a model predictive control (MPC) framework. In view of the on-line optimization used by MPC and the related trade-off between accuracy and computational speed, in a case study the accuracy of various approximations is compared to the original nonlinear formulation of METANET.

Hybrid model predictive control of a nonlinear three-tank system based on the proposed compact form of piecewise affine model

In this paper, a predictive control based on the proposed hybrid model is designed to control the fluid height in a three-tank system with nonlinear dynamics whose operating mode depends on the instantaneous amount of system states. The use of nonlinear hybrid model in predictive control leads to a problem of mixed integer nonlinear programming (MINLP) which is very complex and time consuming t...

Adaptive Online Traffic Flow Prediction Using Aggregated Neuro Fuzzy Approach

Short term prediction of traffic flow is one of the most essential elements of all proactive traffic control systems. Although various methodologies have been applied to forecast traffic parameters, several researchers have showed that compared with the individual methods, hybrid methods provide more accurate results . These results made the hybrid tools and approaches a more common method for ...

Model-based traffic and emission control using PWA models - A mixed-logical dynamic approach

For the purpose of traffic control a piecewiseaffine (PWA) approximation of the METANET model is proposed and tested in a model-based predictive control (MPC) framework. A macroscopic traffic flow model for integrated control of freeway and urban traffic networks

We develop a macroscopic model for mixed urban and freeway traffic networks that is particularly suited for control purposes. In particular, we use an extended version of the METANET traffic flow model to describe the evolution of the traffic flows in the freeway part of the network. For the urban network we propose a new model that is based on the Kashani model. Furthermore, we also describe t...

Model - based traffic control for balanced reduction of fuel consumption , emissions , and travel time ∗

In this paper we integrate the macroscopic traffic flow model METANET with the microscopic dynamic emission and fuel consumption model VT-Micro. We use the integrated models in the model predictive control (MPC) framework to reduce exhaust emissions, fuel consumption, and travel time using dynamic speed limit control. With simulation experiments we demonstrate the countereffects and conflicting...
